I have seen and heard it all

First, I need you to read this article. Pay special attention to the second paragraph.

Go ahead, read the article. I'll wait.

Finished? Good.

This story reminds me of a story I once heard. I'm going to leave names and locations out of it to maintain the anonymity of those involved.

An inmate serving in a state prison once filed a lawsuit against the state claiming that the inmate's freedom of religion was being violated. This inmate claimed that an oak tree was necessary, and the state refused to provide one. As the inmate professed to be a Druid, this was a violation of this inmate's right to practice religion. The inmate pointed out that Muslim inmates were given alternate meals when pork was served, therefore a tree should be provided for Druids.
Of course, the state dismissed the lawsuit as frivolous.

I swear this shit really happened, and reading that article about inmates suing the beer and wine companies reminded me of this professed Druid who sued a state because an oak tree wasn't provided in state correctional facilities.

Have a beautiful day, y'all.

  1. Sorry, I should say something more intelligent than my first response. Personal responsibility.

I mean, my mother made me apoplectic in her refusal to talk about the manipulativeness of the tobacco industry in adding stuff that made her cigarettes more addictive than regular tobacco ever was, in her thought that this was an anti-smoking fabrication that demonized tobacco companies. But still, there is a point where one must take responsibilities for their own actions and choices.

As for the druid and the tree? I think the whole incarceration thing is pretty messed up. So apart from that information being interesting, I haz nuttin'.

    1. They put some gross shit in cigarettes. And the druid? Wasn't really a druid.

    2. You know, I just had a feeling about that. That was why I hedged on making fun of it. Ugh. Just? UGH.

  2. Are you freakin' kidding me right now? No, I suppose not, it's in print. All I can do is shake my head and hope and pray that one day someone will stop the madness and insanity of frivolous lawsuits. To their credit, they did it on their own. So, yeah, there's that.

Since the guy was a druid, maybe they could have given him a bamboo plant for the spirit? I don't know.

    1. The druid said "giving bamboo to a druid is like giving a cracker to a catholic"

    2. Dude's not very smart after all. I remember going to mass on a small island in someone's house, with a priest who made the rounds of islands, back when I was a kid, back when I was a catholic. We got crackers.

  3. Whenever I read about these kind of lawsuits, it really saddens me to the state of our country. And for future generations who will grow up believing that suing is the answer. Nothing is THEIR fault. Like Karen said: personal responsibility

    1. Yep. Being responsible is what it means to be an adult

  4. My last time at jury duty I was called for a case of "slip and fall" IN PRISON! When I suggested we all sue the guy for making us miss two days of pay, the case was dismissed rather quickly.
