Just a few more weeks, y'all

A few more weeks til what?

Lots of things.

Obviously, only a few more weeks til The Christmas. I have actually gotten the bulk of my shopping done. (I know, that's disgusting. However, it was easy peasy since Sunshine and I agreed that there wasn't going to be a bunch of gross consumerism going on around here this year for The Christmas. Also, I have gotten great deals on the things I bought, which means it cost me about half of what I had budgeted, which leaves me room to get that last item for Sunshine even if I can't get that Black Friday doorbuster price on it, which is a relief.

It is also only a few more weeks of ragged fingernails. I went a couple of months ago and had the overlays removed, and boy have my nails looked like shit since then. I got gel polish to try and help strengthen them until the damage grew out, but the nails were so damaged that I was spending $35 and they were chipping within a day or two. I am so sick of the ragged fingernails that I could scream. They rip and tear, and snag on everything, which rips and tears them further. I will be so glad to be done with all the ripping and tearing that I could weep.

Now, if anybody can find me a doorbuster deal on an eReader (without standing in line with the doorbuster crowds), please please let me know.

  1. I thought we were good by actually STARTING our Christmas shopping! Good luck on finding a deal on an eReader - - I'm sure they're out there to be found!

    1. Target has a Nook simple touch for $49 on Thanksgiving or Black Friday. I am hoping that I can get that deal online, because I am not the one to be fighting that madness live and in person. And if you have started your shopping for The Christmas, you're doing really good. I'm just sick sick sick: my mom and I used to "race" to finish first. She gave up when I was finished before Halloween one year; I haven't been able to shake the desire to be done early since. I hate fighting crowds, I prefer to go watch them stab each other over cashmere sweaters for $30.

  2. I love shopping early (starting in summer) for Christmas things, but I have found I have to wait later for the kids Santa lists because they change a lot and we only get them a couple of things, so we can't simply add junk to buy when they change what they want ... so I'm less finished than I ever have been previously.

As for nails, I feel for ya. If I so much as POLISH my nails once, I pretty much have to grow the whole nail out again to have something that isn't chippy and messy. So I maybe paint them once a year. Ouch, right?

But especially, one year I was in a dinner-theatre show where I was required to have claw-like nails nightly. I also had a day job as an editor, and couldn't type with them on. So I would glue 'em on each afternoon, and peel them off every night. My nails were as thin as onion skin paper by the end of the run! It took about a year for me to have *anything* after that, but it was the best professional theatrical run I ever had, so I remain grateful for the experience. Plus I loved having those crazy nails every night ...

  3. If you don't take one start taking a multivitamin. My nails were very weak and brittle and tore all the time. Once I started taking my daily multivitamin my nails started getting stronger. They're not perfect but they grow now and aren't paper thin anymore. I don't take anything fancy, just the Target brand gummy vitamins.

In the interest of honesty, I take vitamin C too but I don't think that has anything to do with nails.

    1. I'm probably going to have to try that. I feel like crap half the time, probably because I call Oreos food.

  4. Yesterday Amazon had a deal on their Kindle Fires, but I don't know if they still do. That's probably not very helpful.

I feel you on the nail thing. I got rid of my tips after kid #1 and nearly 8 years later they're still super weak. They look nice for maybe a day, so I don't bother painting them either.

  5. CyberMonday...that's what I'm all about. I avoid stores at all costs. I shop for food only and if they didn't charge for delivery, I'd do that online too!

Good luck, Cindy and um, yeah, I'm a tad jealous of you being almost done. I can admit that right?

    1. Yes. You can admit jealousy. I'm hoping like hell that I find an online steal-of-a-deal on a nook or kindle during that thanksgiving thru monday rush of sales. I hate crowds in stores!

  6. Don't I remember you rocking the early gift buying last year too? I haven't even started, but there won't be too much to do this year. I still better get on it.
As for the nails, take everything off and douse them in oil on the regular. When I was a nail tech I used Solar Oil, but any kind will do ya. Other that that all you can do is wait.

    1. Thanks for the tip for mah nails. And it's easy to be so close to done shopping for The Christmas when I'm only getting presents for Sunshine amd the dog. I have one thing left to get for each of them. Was I done this early last year too?

    2. You were a nail tech, Joules? Well tie me up and paint me purple I had no idea. Learn something new everyday, I find. You will have to fix my nails up fancy when I come to visit.

  7. I have no wisdom on the nails. Mine are awful, too. (I might have to try Joules' tip)

We do a couple of presents for Katarina, and that is it for present buying. She usually wants to buy something for me and Thomas - a book for me and a dvd for him. Present shopping is actually pretty easy when you are too poor to buy for a lot of people. The only complaint I have (and it is silly, really) is that Katarina doesn't really ask for presents or anything, so she is actually kind of hard to buy for. That is what I get for having a sweet, content kid. (seriously, not something to complain about)

    1. If your kid is that content (and I believe you when you say she is), then mad props to you for some serious parenting skills!
